Sylvia from A&E’s Intervention Gives an Update to Sober Living by the Sea

She is so great. We love to hear from Sylvia, she has turned her life around and is an inspiration to recovering people around the world. She was featured on A&E’s Intervention Season 2 and also on a follow up episode where some of the shows most inspirational participants were interviewed.

From Sylvia:

Hey out there in Sober Land,

Its Sylvia Parsons, sobriety date June 6, 2006 and yes I got sober at Sober Living by the Sea. I am that girl that you have watched on A&E’s Intervention. Yeah, that SYLVIA.

I just wanted to give you an update on what is going on in my life at present. Did any of you see the A&E After Treatment Special last fall? That was so much fun to do, and just getting to meet the people behind the scenes of my own intervention was the best and seeing KC Hollmer out in the audience was great too.

I don’t really remember what I said, but I had prayed for words, so you
know how that goes. I am sure I said what I was supposed to say.

Well, I just got back from NYC and was part of the A & E Recovery Project on September 12th.  Over 10,000 men and women in recovery walked for public awareness and to spread the word that addiction is a treatable disease. We all walked across the Brooklyn Bridge together. I still get cold chills when I think about turning my head to look behind me and saw all of those people. I was the guest speaker. I don’t really remember what I said, but I had prayed for words, so you know how that goes. I am sure I said what I was supposed to say.

You can visit www.therecoveryproject.com for more information. it is my understanding that the network is still downloading all the stuff, but there will be another one next year.  Please come!

On a personal note, I am still “doing the deal”. I get on my knees in the morning and ask God to keep me sober, I call my sponsor, I talk to my sponsees, I go to a meeting, and I am always trying to get out of myself and be of service, and then I get on my knees at night and thank God for keeping me sober. I do this every day. To be honest, I am scared not too.

I love the meetings. I love trying to keep my side of the street clean. Hey, it is progress not perfection, right?

I love being sober and living sober. Now, all of you do know that there is a difference. Took me a while to figure that one out.

I am starting to school full time in January. I am working on becoming a certified substance abuse counselor, a certified family counselor, and acquiring a certification in case management. I love this stuff, guys. AND I am working on becoming a Board Registered Interventionist. yep. You got that right.

I have finally decided what I want to be when I grow up and I have to thank all you, who put up with me during my recovery days at Sober Living by the Sea, who believed in me when I was crazy, crying, confused and yes, I have to say: a little belligerent.

I love being sober and living sober. Now, all of you do know that there is a difference. Took me a while to figure that one out.

I would love to hear from friends. You can e mail me at: recoveryisthekey “-at-” gmail.com

Who knows when you will see me again, but I have the e mail address now and promise to give you a heads up!

Love you!
